May 5, 2012 – The Interim Judges Panel for the International Aeon Award Short Fiction Contest 2012 are delighted to announce those short stories that have been shortlisted in the competition after the first round of consideration, which ran from January 1 to March 31st 2012. This time around, no less than 6 fine stories have been shortlisted. The titles of the shortlisted stories are given below, but author names are withheld to ensure impartiality whilst the contest proceeds.

Competition was fierce, with an abundance of high-quality stories this round, making the judges’ task very difficult. Congratulations to the authors of the shortlisted stories, and our commiserations to the authors whose stories were not shortlisted this time around.
Remember, the contest is open to fiction submissions up to the end of November 2012, with the second round of consideration ending June 30th 2012. So get those stories submitted to the contest, and be in with the chance of winning one of the Grand Prizes of €1000, €200 or €100, plus publication in Albedo One, Ireland’s magazine of speculative fiction.
