April 5, 2017 – The Interim Judges Panel for the International Aeon Award Short Fiction Contest 2016 are at long last, and with sincere thanks for the patience of the contest entrants, ready to announce the stories to be added to the contest shortlist after the fourth and final round of the competition, which ran from October 1 to November 30, 2016.
This time the judges have shortlisted a whopping 22 exceptional stories to complement the 30 shortlisted during the first, second and third rounds. This makes for a grand total of 52 shortlisted stories during 2016 – the highest ever total since the Aeon Award was launched in 2004. The titles of all shortlisted stories are given below, but author names are withheld to ensure impartiality whilst the contest proceeds.
We thank the authors of all the stories entered into the contest during the final round, and congratulate the authors of the shortlisted stories, whose stories now go on in the competition with a chance to win the 1000 euro Grand Prize and publication in Albedo One. As ever, our commiserations to the authors of those stories that were not shortlisted this time around.
The 2016 contest will now play out as follows: the Interim Judges will face the agonizing task of choosing the top 6 stories from the overall shortlist by the end of April. This decision will be announced at the same time here at albedo1.com. The top 6 stories will then go to the Grand Judges for the final choice of the three winners. May we wish the authors of the shortlisted stories the best of luck as the contest moves into these final stages.
