31 December 2013 – The Interim Judges Panel for the International Aeon Award Short Fiction Contest 2013 have, at long last, completed the difficult process of choosing the stories to be added to the contest shortlist after the fourth and final round of the competition, which ran from October 01 to November 30.
The judges have added a total of eleven exceptional stories to the shortlist, a record number for any one round, because of the record number of submissions received in this final round of the contest. This brings the combined total of stories shortlisted in the first, second, third and fourth rounds to 32 for 2013.
The titles of all shortlisted stories are given below, with author names withheld to ensure impartiality whilst the contest proceeds.
We thank the authors of all the stories who entered and supported the contest during this final round, and congratulate the authors of the 10 new shortlisted stories, whose work now goes on in the competition with a chance to win the 1000 euro Grand Prize and publication in Albedo One.
The next step in the contest is for the Interim Judges to re-read each shortlisted story and fight for their favorites to decide the top 6 shortlisted stories, that will ultimately go to our Grand Judges (Ian Watson, Eileen Gunn, Michael Carroll, Todd J. McCaffrey) for the final decision on the three winning stories. We anticipate that the top 6 shortlisted stories will be announced here by the end of January, and the overall winners will be announced by mid-February, 2014.
Our very best wishes to the authors of all the shortlisted stories as the judging proceeds!
